Could the Eau Claire County seat move to another town?

That's just one of the ideas that came up Tuesday night at a county board meeting.

The next step for the jail project was the main topic of discussion before the board.

The county originally wanted to put the jail in downtown Eau Claire next to the Chippewa River, but the city council voted against a request to rezone the land.

On Tuesday night, board members discussed potential location options for the new jail that included places outside of Eau Claire, like Altoona or Fall Creek.

Board members and the public all commented on the idea.

"I am not opposed to a jail, but I am opposed to it in the location that the county board has proposed twice now."

"The project can't move forward if we're not all on the same page. More protest petitions would come again if it were to, if a decision were made to go in this location."

"It would be incumbent on us, this board, to work with another government entity that would welcome us and would want to work cooperatively with us and it's not something we've seen from the city of Eau Claire."
