Tall grass along the highways could make the roads more dangerous for motorcycle drivers.

Vernon County Sheriff Gene Cary says there have been more motorcycle crashes in the counties along the Mississippi River this year. He says it appears the long grass along the highways may have a role in the increase. Cary says motorcycle drivers have reported they have no warning of deer while they're in the grass.

The Department of Transportation has limited mowing along the highways to once per year in September. Vernon County has gotten consent to do its mowing now instead.
