It's the second day at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair. There are lots of people getting cheese curds, fries and getting ready for the performances coming up.

There are a few new things this year at the fair that have changed. This is the 112th Northern Wisconsin State Fair but the first year it has gone from a private owner to a public board. That has brought a lot of changes.

Fair goers say a lot about the fair, "I like the ferris wheel."

"It's awesome," says another fair goer.

Rusty Volk is in his first year of running the fair and says it was almost the last.

Volk says, "There was a big concern that what you see here now would never be here again."

He says the land the fair sits on was almost sold to investors but instead a non-profit board bought it to save the fair.

Volk says, "It is our responsibility now to look at the grounds and determine how we can rebuild it or determine what's going to happen in the future."

The board is made up of 9 people and Volk says the group is looking for input from all over the region. They want to make this a regional fair about more than just Chippewa County.

Volk says, "I can very confidently say the fair grounds will be serving the Chippewa Falls community and the entire area for the next 30 years." …and reassurance like that puts a bigger smile on fair goers faces.

Jerica Melgaard says, "That would be sad, we look forward to coming to the fair every year, especially the grand stands."

With the fair safe, everyone can still enjoy their favorite spots.

Some new additions to the fair include the Gamer Tent where people can battle it out in Guitar Hero tournaments.
