The Eau Claire City-County Health Department is encouraging everyone to test their homes for Radon this month.
>
Radon testing kits are available from the Department.
>
They are designed to measure the amount of radon in the home.
Radon is a gas that is a by-product of traces of Uranium that can appear in the soil.
>
The only known health effect is lung cancer.
>
Despite the area typically having low radon levels, City-County Health still says it's a good idea to test your home.
>
"You don't know if you have a problem unless you test, even if your neighbor has a problem, your home maybe just just fine, or vice versa," says Sanitarian Courtenay John from Eau Claire City-County Health.
