How would you like to have a pain-free labor-- without drugs?

One Elk Mound mom says she did. Now, she wants to help other moms-to-be get the same result with HypnoBirthing.

Deb Gehrke says it's all about relaxation and working with your body during labor.
If you can believe it she says she never even felt a contraction her first pregnancy and she already has some believers in Eau Claire.

Meet Mason Gorski—seven months old, teething and what his mom calls the most "intense" experience of her life.

"I wanted to have a natural birth and limited amounts of pain, which is a pretty big selling point,” says Rebecca Gorski

And Rebecca never once uses the word “pain” when talking about labor and delivery.

"It's hard for people to understand that it is a natural thing for your body to do and if you can work w/ yourself, it absolutely can work."

Using CDs, Rebecca worked with Deb Gehrke to have a HypnoBirth.

"You go through a lot of relaxation techniques throughout the classes and you're able to relax very deeply,” Gehrke says. “You’re totally conscience when you're in this—I mean you're going to look at them and they look totally relaxed, almost like they're asleep, but they're not."

It's at full volume—but, there's no screaming, no swearing and no drugs.

"There are birthing classes at the hospital and they teach you a great deal, but what I found I didn't really have any classes to talk about what you could to participate and really help birthing take place," says Gehrke.

That's what inspired her to start teaching HypnoBirthing out of her home.
And Rebecca says when it's time for Mason to get a little brother or sister, she'll definitely head back to Elk Mound.

"Absolutely, I would do it again; I would go through the whole course again. It was just a wonderful experience being in a relaxed state and being with my husband. I was in control of my body. I guess that's what it comes down to--being in control of your body.”

The class takes four or five sessions that last about two and a half hours.
And dads come too; they learn light massage techniques and how to help be a calming force in the delivery room.

Deb charges $300. That includes a book and HypnoBirthing CD. And, she says a lot of insurance companies include it as child birth education.
