MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- National Weather Service officials are traveling to parts of the Twin Cities and western Wisconsin to survey damage after a night of severe weather and several reported tornadoes.
Trained spotters from the Weather Service reported tornadoes in areas near the western Minneapolis suburbs of Mound, Orono, Long Lake and Plymouth late Saturday. There was also a report of a funnel cloud northwest of Hudson in St. Croix County, Wisconsin.
National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Bardou says there are no reports of injuries but lots of downed trees and powerlines as well as scattered damage to buildings and property in both states.
WCCO-AM in Minneapolis reported that 43 homes in Plymouth had some storm damage. In addition, about 12,000 homes in the western Twin Cities area were without power for most of the night.
