A local beach is closed because of potentially dangerous algae problems.
The Eau Claire County Parks and Forest Department says blue-green algae bloom may be at Lake Altoona County Park.
A sample from the lake was sent to the state lab for testing.
They say when blooms occur the blue-green algae can cause "pea soup" water and releases toxins that can cause illness and even death in humans and dogs.
The department will re-open the swimming area if they find out if it is safe.
