Thursday’s storms forced people from their homes, flooded streets and downed trees all over Pepin County.
The city of Durand got more than 6.5 inches of rain and the town of Arkansaw received almost and inch more at 7.34 inches overnight.
One city says its drainage system is in rough shape after taking on almost 500,000 gallons of water in just under two hours.
In the city of Durand, the City Council is planning an emergency meeting to fix its drainage system that has all but collapsed.
"All of this erosion that takes place ends up going down so it ties into our storm sewer system in Durand then ends up in the Chippewa River. We are a little worried about the effects this might have on our sewer system," says Lance Gurney.
Durand City Administrator Lance Gurney says the city was looking and putting a plan into action after last week's storms did damage to the same areas but he says the storms Friday morning tripled the damage.
“This is more complex than what the cities crew can handle. In terms of trying to find a plan of action as far as what is a good repair to this and who has the ability and equipment to do it is what were looking at,” says Gurney.
He says it could cost $500,000 to fix all the damage, which is a quarter of the city's entire budget. The meeting will happen Wednesday August 19th at 6 P.M. at Durand’s City Hall.
