Starting Tuesday, anyone who owns a cell phone, landline phone or any other device that can call 911 will have to pay a 75 cent phone tax per month.
Wisconsin Senator Scott Fitzgerald says its part of a $5 billion tax program that'll fund a 6 percent increase in the state budget. He says a previous wireless surcharge expired in July of 2008. That one helped upgrade and maintain 911 centers.
Senator Fitzgerald says the new phone tax is not beneficial during our current economic times.
