The owner of the area's only Spanish-language newspaper is looking to expand to readers far beyond Wisconsin's borders.

Noticias, or "news," is based in Abbotsford and reaches readers in 23 counties throughout the state.

Owner Alejandro Vazquez says he created Noticias out of a need to provide information to the Hispanic community, along with an orientation to what he calls the "Wisconsin way."

And now, Vazquez says he plans to expand the newspaper's reach to Hispanic communities in other parts of the state and the Mdwest.

"Noticias is all whatever you can think of," Vazquez said. "All of it that is normal for you, for the Hispanic community is not normal."

Vazquez started Noticias three years ago with the help of his 14-year-old daughter Ivone.

The newspaper covers information some may take for granted, like how to pay taxes and get a driver's license, and stories employees say are about "common people."

"We only care what happens in your real life, what you need to do and that's it," Vazquez said.

Vazquez delivers 35,000 copies of Noticias twice a month to Spanish restaurants and stores in about 45 cities throughout Wisconsin...and
for free.

Ivone Vazquez says the staff of just four works amidst skepticism about the newspaper - even from some of its readers.

"It's something really funny cause in the beginning they don't wanna be in the newspaper but now they always wanna be in there," said Noticias Director Ivone Vazquez. "It's really cool."

Vazquez is hoping to expand to other parts of the Midwest by the end of the year.

And he says he wants to see Noticias reach readers throughout the country by the end of next year.

Vazquez says he plans to create an English version of the newspaper,
once the company can afford it.
