A new grant worth millions of dollars will create jobs and help fight crime in Dunn County.
Officers say the grant of more than $2.3 million dollars is the largest grant in the state and one of the biggest in the nation.
The money is coming from the U.S. Department of Justice and will benefit Menomonie Police, the Dunn County Sheriff's Department and the Police Departments at UW-Stout, in Boyceville, Colfax and Elk Mound.
Police say they'll use the money to hire three new information technology workers.
The grant will also let the departments buy mobile computers that will help them do things more efficiently.
Menomonie Police Chief Wayne Stolpa says, "In terms of what the taxpayers gain here is the amount of time that the officer can actually spend no the street, instead of being tied up on reports, coming back to the station to look up names."
Stolpa says mobile computers will be installed in every police squad, something most other counties already have.
