CVTC 5K Charity run & Chili Cook-off benefits three causes

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – Runners and walkers got a gorgeous day for CVTC’s first annual 5K Charity Run and Chili Cook-off in Eau Claire

More than a hundred racers put on their running shoes for the event on Sunday.

It's put on by CVTC’s firefighter, paramedic and criminal justice training programs. Program directors say the event is about extending community service beyond the work EMS personnel do every day.

“I think the main thing is we have to be focused on service, what we can do for the community. In our jobs we do that already as firefighters, paramedics, law enforcement but it's not just about our role there, we are invested in the community in our ways too,” said program director Marcy Bruflat.

Several charities will benefit from the money raised at the event including the Burn Alliance, United Cerebral Palsy and Fierce Freedom.
