It takes cash to keep those roads clear. According to the highway commissioner, it cost $75,000 to clear the state roads within Eau Claire County, that's 15% of the winter budget and clearing just the county roads costs $56,000, about 7% of the budget. Plow drivers got overtime since the storm hit on a weekend which drove up the costs a bit.

Our weekend storm was a record-breaker for one city. The National Weather Service says this snow storm was the largest on record in La Crosse. The snow records date back to 1893. The airport had a grand total of 21 inches in three days. The previous record was 19 inches back in March of 1997.

La Crosse schools were cancelled because the buses were plowed in and couldn't make the routes. Three Rivers Bus Service has machines to clean the parking lots and contingency plans for snow storms like this, but a mechanical failure made today a no-go. After five hours of digging them out, the buses are ready for tomorrow.

Winona, Minnesota is still digging out today after getting dumped on all weekend. According to the final totals, it got 29 1/2 inches. That's the most snow on the Minnesota side for this storm.
