Lautenschlager considers pay cut

Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager says she is considering giving up part of her pay as a self-imposed punishment for driving a state car while intoxicated.

Lautenschlager makes 127-thousand dollars a year. She has
pleaded guilty to a drunken driving charge after being arrested
Monday night, when she ran her state car into a ditch on the way
from Madison to her home in Fond du Lac.

She paid a 784-dollar fine and had her driver's license revoked
for a year.

Governor Jim Doyle says she should face some kind of financial
penalty from the state government.

Lautenschlager told a Madison paper she intends to
impose sanctions on herself in the same way other employees have been penalized for misuse of state vehicles.

She's having attorneys research that before deciding on her own
penalty.
