Laser Monks

The Cistercian Abbey of Our Lady of Spring Bank in Sparta, home to five monks, may not look like an office supply store, but the monks are finding success with a business they own that works with printer cartridge manufacturers to sell ink jets at a reduced price.

Not only to their clients get cheap supplies, but the profits the monks make go to fund various projects not only in Sparta, but also around the world, where their customers live.

In 2002, their first year of business, the business made only $2,000. The second year, the business made half a million, and this year's projections are looking even brighter, says Fr. Bernard McCoy.
