Sturgeon Bay Shipbuilding Business in Full Swing

There's no winter slowdown for workers at Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay.

In fact, it's the busiest time of year for the company that does repairs and maintenance on the freighters that travel the Great Lakes. Fifteen to 18 vessels dock for the winter at Sturgeon Bay.

Company officials say the work gives the local economy a boost because each vessel has about 20 sailors who spend a week or two in Sturgeon Bay when the ship arrives, then spend another two or three weeks before it leaves.
