A man who's been running from police for almost 14 years is now behind bars. La Crosse Police say 67-year-old Donald M. Johnson of La Crosse turned himself in on Friday night. An online jail roster shows he is in the La Crosse County jail on a half-million dollars bond.
An officer told WEAU he doesn't know why Johnson turned himself in, but that Johnson had been in contact with criminal defense attorneys in the area before Friday night.
A 13-year-old criminal complaint shows Johnson had last been seen in November of 1995 when he was an investment advisor in the area. It also shows a former co-worker telling investigators that more than $850,000 of Johnson's clients' money was gone too. The complaint goes on to say that investigators traced a voice message Johnson may have left for his wife to a number near Chicago.
Johnson is scheduled to be in court on October 15th.
