On Monday evening, the Elk Mound village board will hold a meeting to discuss the subject.
At issue are budget matters; adding the fluoride to the tap water costs about $600 per year. However, the village will be required to add another chemical to their well at a cost that could reach $4,000.
Now there's concern over whether the village can afford both. Elk Mound Public Works Director Terry Stamm says since the law doesn't mandate fluoride to be in the water, the village board will discuss whether the possible health benefits outweigh the cost.
The public is invited to the Monday night meeting.
