New Casino Is in the Works for Southwestern Wisconsin

An American Indian Tribe has approved the purchase of a parcel of land in southwestern Wisconsin where it wants to build an off-reservation casino.

The Lac du Flambeau band of Lake Superior Chippewa wants to build a casino, hotel and convention center on 93 acres in Schullsburg in LaFayette County.

The tribe says its council approved the purchase late last week. The Lac du Flambeau has had an option on the land since 2000. Indian tribes need approval from both the governor and the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs to build off-reservation casinos.

The Lac du Flambeau is seeking approval for its proposal.
