State Assembly Approves New Bill
The State Assembly approved a bill Thursday under which Wisconsin clergy would be required to tell authorities if they suspect a child has been sexually abused.
The Assembly voted 99 to 0 to approve the bill, which was amended to require clergy to report any suspected case of sexual abuse to authorities.
The legislation would also extend the statue of limitations for victims filing lawsuits against the clergy and churches.
Current law requires most health care providers, social workers, teachers, and childcare workers to report suspected child abuse by anyone.
