Some people out grabbing their groceries last night ran across an unexpected visitor in the aisles.
That's because a 125 pound black bear wandered right into the liquor department at Marketplace Foods in Hayward. The bear walked through the beer cooler and climbed up 12 feet onto a shelf where it sat for about an hour.
Customers were evacuated and the DNR tranquilized the bear and took it out of the store. Store workers say the bear was tame and content. In case you're wondering, the bear didn't help itself to any drinks.
