The Women's Policy Research Institute in Washington has some good things to say about the state of women in Wisconsin, like a low poverty rate and good access to health care. However, other factors, like a gender gap in pay and low representation in Congress are causes for concern.
In response, Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton has been holding open forums in 10 cities on what she calls the "Wisconsin Women Prosperity Initiative." She held one of the forums in Eau Claire Monday night. The forums focus on topics like health, safety, economic sufficiency and political participation.
