Crooks hit more than 80 storage units in one county in recent weeks. Now, the sheriff wants people there to check on their stuff.
Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk says as of Tuesday, four separate storage facilities have had locks cut. They're in the towns of Lafayette, Sigel, Eagle Point and the Village of Lake Hallie.
The sheriff says only a handful of people have reporting things missing. But, he says the burglars did get away with $13,000 worth of materials from a unit rented by Red Wing Custom Cabinets and Flooring. That business is in Boyd.
Sheriff Kowalczyk says the burglars could be looking for something in particular.
The sheriff says if you're at your unit, write down any other license plates. That way if there's a break-in, someone has a record who was there and when.
If you have any information, call the Chippewa County Sheriff's Department at (715) 726-7701.
