Telemarketing Trouble

Local officers say they've received several inquiries concerning an organization called the Wisconsin County Police Association.

Residents say they've received calls from people on behalf of the organization, soliciting for donations. The callers claim they're providing money to the Eau Claire Police Department. However, department officials say they have no relationship with the organization. Officer Jack Corey says, "We don't know if this is legit or not, except to say we have not received, not been asked to receive, we haven't asked them to help us.

There's no connection between the two of us." Officer Corey says any complaints about the group should be directed to the State Bureau of Consumer Protection at 1-800-422-7128.
