Wisconsin Walgreen Stores Pay Scanner Fine

Walgreens has paid the state of Wisconsin more than $22,000 in fines to settle claims of inaccurate checkout scanners.
The Department of Consumer Protection says half the 28 Walgreens stores tested by their agents failed state standards. The department says the overall error rate exceeded five percent compared with two percent as an acceptable rate.
Overcharges averaged $2.40 at the stores. The average undercharge with $1.28. Wisconsin law requires stores to issue refunds for overcharges. Walgreens says the company does not admit to any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.
Stores failing the scanner test were in Milwaukee, Sheboygan and Portage. Stores passing the scanner survey were in Eau Claire, La Crosse and Stevens Point.
