For the third time in just the last few weeks, a bank is held up. This time it happened in Elk Mound just west of Eau Claire.
It happened at Bremer Bank on Menomonie Street. The Elk Mound Police Department, Dunn County Sheriff's Department, State Patrol and FBI were all on scene Wednesday afternoon.
Dunn County Sheriff Dennis Smith says this man came in the front door at 2:02 Wednesday afternoon. The man told two women working inside he had a gun and demanded money. The man ran back out the front door and was last seen on foot.
He's a white man with a thin build, around 30 years old and between 5'6'' and 5'8.'' He was wearing sunglasses, a dark baseball cap, and a green camo waist-length jacket. The sheriff says the two bank employees were scared, but not harmed.
"It's kind of unnerving when you feel like the person has a gun. Since there was no gun that was shown I'm sure there's some doubt whether or not the person had it. But if they had seen one, I'm sure it would've been much worse. As it was, they were upset and having a real bad day at the office," Smith says.
Sheriff Smith won't say just how much money was taken. It's unclear if the suspect actually had a gun.
If you have any information call (715) 232-1348.
Smith says it's unclear if this bank robbery is connected to recent ones. But he says they'll continue to put the pieces together and work to solve it.
There have been several bank thefts in our area recently. Someone held up Alliance Bank in Eau Claire on 10/8, Security Bank in Ridgeland on 10/14 and the US Bank on 7/15. There was a bank burglary in Onalaska on 10/17. Hudson police say there was a robbery this month in the city as well. So far, suspects have only been arrested in connection to the July US Bank robbery.
