Whitehall Officer Charged

Officer Daniel Wineski appeared before Judge John Damon in Trempealeau County court on Tuesday afternoon. Wineski is accused of sexually assaulting a girl back in the summer of 1996, when she was 14-years-old.

The criminal complaint states that Wineski later intimidated the girl not to tell authorities about the incident, allegedly even using his gun to prove his point. Robbie Lowery from the state Department of Justice says state officials have been investigating the claims since last November.

Chief Larry Estenson with the Whitehall Police Department says he was shocked at the claims. He describes Wineski as a good officer, who has never caused the department any problems. Wineski is out of jail on a $10,000 signature bond.
