Court Decision May Affect Students

The court is allowing states to withhold scholarships from theology students, even if the money is available to students who study just about anything else.

Even though UW-Eau Claire only has a undergraduate degree in religious studies, an educator says the ruling could affect students in their post-graduate education. Charlene Burns from the Religious Studies department says the ruling could have a serious effect on UW-EC students planning for the seminary.

The ruling stems from a case in Washington State. The court says the state had the right to deny a taxpayer scholarship to a college student who was studying to be a minister.
