Police released the 911 call that put Representative Jeff Wood in jail.
A woman called 911 after she saw a car, police say Representative Wood was driving, going all over the road outside Tomah. She told officers she was concerned for people’s safety.
"I think he's drunk he's all over the road," says the 911 caller.
The call came in just before 4:30 Wednesday afternoon.
"He's speeding up, he's slowing down, he's hitting the shoulder of the road. He just about hit someone on the other side,” says the caller.
The caller stayed on the line with dispatchers, giving details about his driving.
"Dude, he's like going to kill someone, "oh god," he just about hit a car," says the caller.
She followed Representative Wood until officers got there.
"I’m just rather concerned and thought I should report this," she says.
That phone call led to another arrest, then an appearance in Monroe County Court Thursday. Court documents show Wood was driving from the VA Medical Center in Tomah when he was pulled over. Assembly Speaker Mike Sheridan says Wood told him he was in an inpatient rehab program. When he was stopped this time, Wood told officers he'd taken two antidepressant pills.
Officers found four bottles of prescription medicine, one in his car and three in his pockets.
On Wednesday, officers say when they gave him a field sobriety test Wood ended up falling to the ground.
"Wood stated that he slipped and wanted to try the test again,” that's when officers say wood "again lost his balance and began hopping backwards…fearing that Wood would harm himself, (the officer) decided to stop the standardized testing for his safety."
"I don't know how he can represent somebody with his problems," says voter Otto Bohl.
"He's not showing a very good job right now. I don't think he's representing us," says Jon O’Connell in Chippewa Falls.
Wood's charged with his 3rd OWI, but court records show he's been arrested five times for OWI. Republican Representative Steve Nass started the expulsion process to oust Wood after his last arrest and now Governor Jim Doyle is calling for Wood's resignation.
"Stunned, just stunned. I thought there would have been a lesson learned after the forth time. Now we're dealing with a fifth time which is terribly unfortunate not only for Jeff Wood, but also the institution," says Republican Representative Steve Nass.
After walking out of the Monroe County Jail, Representative Wood had nothing to say. Wood is out of jail on $1000 cash bond. His next scheduled court date in Monroe County is slated for early November.
