Underpass Construction to Begin

Back in 1998, 12-year-old Kristi Brummond was killed while trying to ride her bike across Clairemont Avenue after school. After her death, her classmates began a campaign to make the area safer, by installing an underpass.

They met with city council members, won federal grants from the government, and even won the approval of the community. After years of work, construction on the underpass will begin this summer.

The project will cost about $500,000, much of that funded from grants. City officials plan on having the underpass finished by this fall, just in time for the new school year.
