Two Wisconsin Peace Activists to Iraq

Fred Brancel, a retired Methodist missionary from Monona, and Marion Steunkel , a social worker from Madison, left for Iraq Thursday as part of an on-going peace mission to meet with both Iraqi citizens and members of the U.S. military.

They both belong to the Chicago-based "Christian Peace Maker" that promotes non-violent solutions to international problems. Brancel has a grandson serving in the U.S. Air Force in Iraq. However, both said their two-week trip will mostly involve meeting with Iraqi families who have relatives either killed or imprisoned during the war.
