Septic System Inspection

A new proposal would make rural residents of Eau Claire County pay $9 a year for a postcard reminding them to get their septic systems inspected.

The reminder would only be mailed out every three years, which some say raises the fee to $27 per postcard.

The County Board delayed a vote on the plan this week after getting written objections from various towns.

Town of Lincoln Chairman Dean Zimmerman says it looks more like job creation or job security for agency employees than anything else.

A law passed last year requires counties to send reminders to all owners of the systems.
