Many Consumers Turn to Gas Saving Cars

Many car dealers around the country, and in the Chippewa Valley, say they've seen a growing interest in hybrid cars. Hybrids are vehicles that combine gasoline engines with battery- powered electric motors. With the recent gas price spike, more consumers are looking into cars like the Honda Civic Hybrid and the Toyota Prius.

While the cars can cost a bit more than their counterparts, savings can be seen in gas mileage, thanks to the battery-powered engine. Mark Boeck from Eau Claire's Ken Vance Car City says they always see more interest as gas prices rise each spring. Boeck says he's seen people trade in their trucks for a hybrid, citing the cost of gas as their main reason.

The popularity of the hybrid is catching on so much, that next year, Honda will unveil a Hybrid Accord.
