A majority of Wisconsin residents support increasing the cigarette tax a quarter per pack.

Results of a new poll show 64-percent of people are in favor of raising the tax, which Governor Jim Doyle is proposing. The same poll found that the same amount people are also favoring a statewide smoking ban in bars restaurants and work places.

The tavern league is lobbying for an exemption on a ban in bars and republican lawmakers are fighting a cigarette tax hike.
