Wisconsin Dove Hunt Upheld

Wisconsin's mourning dove hunt in Wisconsin is legal, says the state supreme court. Justices Tuesday ruled that wildlife officials have broad authority to schedule hunting seasons including the state's symbol of peace.

Citizens Concerned for Cranes and Doves sued to stop the hunt, arguing that the legislature did not want the dove hunted when it designated the bird as a symbol of peace in 1971.

More than 200,000 mourning doves were killed in last year's hunt, which lasted 60 days. The majority of the birds reside in the southern part of Wisconsin.
