Thirty-year-old Diane Fleming, who was convicted of beating a two and a half year child in her care, was sentenced to six months in jail and five years probation Friday in Eau Claire county court.
District Attorney Rich White, who had recommended a prison sentence, respected Judge William Gabler's decision.
The family of the victim, however, was upset over the sentence and felt she got a "slap on the wrist."
Along with the jail time and probation, Fleming is to have no contact with any children under the age of 16, and she is to pay court costs along with restitution to the victim's family.
