If you love to fish or hunt or just get out and enjoy the outdoors in Wisconsin, the DNR wants to hear from you.

Every year hunters and anglers spend $68 million dollars on licenses. Now, the DNR wants your input on spending that money.

Tuesday was the first of three public meetings in the area. We stopped by to see what people are most concerned about, but it's hard to say because no one showed up. That has DNR supervisors concerned, but not necessarily surprised.

DNR supervisors hoped to highlight projects funded by a license fee increase two years ago.

"It restored a level of funding we needed to do programs," says Regional Wildlife Supervisor
Bob Michelson.

Some programs you'll notice like ones restoring trout streams, restocking lakes, restocking pheasants and buying more land for hunting. But, some tend to fly under the radar:

"The biggest difference was in staffing in wildlife,” Michelson says. “We hired a number of staff including 12 biologists."

Without those biologists, Michelson says all the restocking and restoring wouldn't be possible even though a lot of people are always ready to help.

"When times got lean we turned to our volunteers—University, Rod and Gun Clubs, Garden Clubs and schools are all a great help," says Fisheries Supervisor Bob Hujik.

Now, the DNR wants you to volunteer your opinion for the next six years.

"We need to look to new generations. There's nothing more important than looking ahead,” says Michelson. “The resources belong to everybody in the state and the funding—we would like to spend it where people would like to see it spent."

There's a couple ways you can get your opinion to the DNR:

There's another meeting scheduled for April fourth in Wisconsin Rapids and one coming up in La Crosse. You can also pick up a survey at any DNR office or CLICK HERE TO FILL OUT AN ONLINE SURVEY.
