New Bill to be Signed by Governor Doyle

A bill due to be signed into law in La Crosse Monday is aimed at making it easier to prosecute stalkers.

Patti Seger is policy development coordinator for the Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence and she says the changes will remove a tremendous barrier to prosecuting stalking cases. Prosecutors no longer will have to prove a suspect intended to cause fear. They'll only have to show a stalker knew or should have known that his or her actions would cause fear.

The change will put back language back into law that was removed as part of a budget bill passed two years ago. Gov Jim Doyle is to be in La Crosse for the bill-signing Monday.
