The Eau Claire City-County Health Department will provide H1N1 vaccination clinics next week for specific target groups of people to protect those most at risk. The Department of Health Services (DHS) recommends following this plan while the vaccine supply continues to fluctuate.
Initially, the Health Department vaccinated health care workers and emergency services personnel. Pregnant women are encouraged to seek vaccination from their health care providers. At next week’s clinics, the people to be vaccinated are:
- Persons who live with or provide care for infants age 6 months or younger, such as parents, siblings, and daycare providers
.
- Children who are 6 months through 4 years old
- Children and youth who are 5 through 18 years old with chronic medical conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, etc.
H1N1 flu vaccine will be offered to these people at the following locations on the specified dates:
- Peace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire on Thursday, November 5th from 3-7 pm
- St. Mary’s Community Center in Altoona on Saturday, November 7th from 9 am-Noon
- Augusta Community Center on Monday, November 9th from 4-6:30 pm
- Trinity Lutheran Church in Eau Claire on Tuesday, November 10th from 3-6:30 pm
H1N1 flu vaccine (both shots and nasal mist) will be given at no charge. Children under 10 years old will need two H1N1 flu shots. Clinics will be provided in December to give the second shot.
The production of H1N1 vaccine continues to be slower than anticipated. The CDC remains optimistic it will achieve the goal of making the H1N1 vaccine available to all of those who need and want it. Additional community-based clinics will be held as H1N1 vaccine becomes more readily available.
When clinics are scheduled, times and locations can be found on line at clickhere, by calling the Health Department’s Immunization Line at 839-6061, 2-1-1 or by contacting your health care provider.

The Trempealeau County Health Department will also be offering free H1N1 vaccination clinics to people who are most at risk for getting the virus.
• Per State guidelines, only persons in these most-at-risk target groups are eligible to receive vaccine at this time due to limited supply:
o Pregnant women
o Persons who live with or provide care for infants age 6 months or younger (examples: parents, siblings, daycare providers)
o Health care and emergency medical services personnel who have direct contact with patients
o Children aged 6 months – 4 years of age
o Children 5 – 18 years of age who have asthma or diabetes, or other chronic medical conditions that put them at higher risk for influenza-related complications.
• Persons in the target groups may attend any clinic location, regardless of place of residence
• Scheduled clinics are subject to change – dependent on vaccine supply
• Clinics will remain open only while vaccine supplies last
• H1N1 vaccine is free
