Winter is approaching fast, and older homes can be expensive to heat during the winter months.
The Weatherization Assistance Program has helped thousands of families, seniors and the less-fortunate make it through the cold Wisconsin winters.
Mike Canaday, the Energy and Housing Program Director of Western Dairyland, says eight three-person crews are weatherizing more than 400 homes in Eau Claire, Buffalo, Trempealeau, and Jackson counties, saving homeowners about one-third in energy costs.
Canaday says he's been happy to help people heat their homes for the past 28 years.
"Oh, I feel great. Especially when I come and I see a home like this that has no insulation in the side walls, and I think, 'My God, for a hundred years it's been emptying.' The savings she's going to see in her gas bill are going to be phenomenal."
Canaday says there is no cost to the homeowner to have their house weatherized, and the elderly, handicapped, and families with small children receive top priority.
