A University of Wisconsin-Madison student who claimed she had been abducted at knifepoint from her Madison apartment in early April has been charged with two counts of allegedly obstructing police.
Twenty-year-old Audrey Seiler of Rockford, Minnesota was accused of staging her own abduction. The Dane County district attorney's office filed a 16-page complaint Wednesday charging her with two misdemeanors, both of which carry a jail sentence of up to nine months and a maximum fine of $10,000.
Madison police said they spent more than $96,000 searching for her after she was reported missing. She was found four days later in a marsh near the campus. Doctors said she was largely unharmed.
Seiler is back home in Minnesota reportedly receiving medical care. Neither she nor her family has responded to the charges.
