UNDATED (AP) -- April showers may bring May flowers -- but they also bring allergy season.

Allergists across the state are suggesting that people with allergies take preventive measures now.

Marshall Cusic is an allergist at the Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield. He says the area is a good growing area that produces a good pollen crop.

He says May is the peak month when grass pollen is released -- but other pollen sources will be active within about a week.

Stevens Point pharmacist Mike Anderson tells his customers with allergies to start taking medications a week to ten days before allergy season. He says there are several over-the-counter meds that are effective.
