The state could change its strategy for eliminating chronic wasting disease in Wisconsin.
The Natural Resources Board will take up proposed changes next week. State wildlife officials want the area where officials are trying to kill all the deer enlarged.
The board will consider a plan to that would revise population goals for the disease eradication zones in parts of Columbia, Dane, Iowa, Kenosha, Richland, Rock, Sauk and Walworth counties.
Testing so far has found 321 wild deer with the disease in those areas. The Department of Natural Resources previously wanted to kill every deer in the eradication zones.
The proposal the board will consider would instead change the population goals to less than five deer per square mile.
