Western Wisconsin football teams bow out as runner-ups in WIAA state football finals
Despite three chances to bring back a gold ball, all three state finalist teams from Western Wisconsin - Eau Claire Regis, Chippewa Falls McDonell and Arcadia - each fell just short of hoisting the state title trophy. The Macks fell to Burlington Catholic Central in Division 7, the Ramblers were beaten by Edgar in Division 6, and Arcadia lost to St. Mary's Springs in Division 5.

A failed early fourth down conversion and a bad break three plays later would be turning point for the Eau Claire Regis football team in their Division 6 state title game against Edgar. The series would bury the Ramblers in a hole they couldn't recover from in a 47-6 defeat in the title game.

Playing in their first-ever WIAA state championship game and their first title contest in 20 years, the Chippewa Falls McDonell football team could not capture another gold ball, losing 27-15 to defending champ Burlington Catholic Central in the Division 7 state title game Thursday afternoon.

Down 21-0 at halftime, the Arcadia football team broke through for a touchdown in the third quarter, but the Raiders couldn't stop St. Mary's Springs from putting up 21 more points in the second half, falling 42-7 Thursday in the Division 5 state title game.
