Wisconsin Residents Split on Iraq

A new poll shows about half of Wisconsin residents fell the United States did the right thing by going to war in Iraq. The poll also shows 60 percent say U.S. actions in Iraq are going moderately or very badly.

The poll was commissioned by Wisconsin Public Radio and the St. Norbert College Survey Center in De Pere. It also found 54 percent of those surveyed say they felt the war in Iraq had made the nation less safe from terrorism.

Ken Mayer is a University of Wisconsin-Madison political science professor. He says he's not surprised a majority of residents feel the war is going badly because news coming out of Iraq this month hasn't been good.

As of Wednesday, 116 Americans were killed in combat this month, the bloodiest month for U.S. forces in Iraq.
