GOP presidential candidates face off in California

The 2008 Republican presidential candidates met for an early debate in Simi Valley, California, one week after Democrats did the same in South Carolina.
>
The war on Iraq took top billing as the 10 candidates took quick turns on each topic and question. Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and Mitt Romney are at the top of the polls, but former Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson was also in the room, citing his differences from the bush administration on health care reform and his vision for Iraq.
>
"If they want us there, they'll vote us in, if not, they'll vote no and we should get out,” Thompson says.
>
Thompson also finds himself trailing another Thompson, former senator and actor Fred Thompson, who has not announced whether he will run or not but whose recent poll numbers are place him close the top tier.
