Fishing Opener Reels in the Shoppers
The in-land fishing season starts Saturday and not only are anglers excited, but local bait shops are thrilled.

The in-land fishing season starts on Saturday and already local bait shops are seeing an increase in business.

Local bait shop owner Bob Bernier says the season opener is always an exciting time, and starting Saturday his business will nearly double. He says on Friday his shop was already crowded with anglers on the hunt for last minute supplies.

"Most of them use worms or minnows and bobbers of course and fish hooks but other than that you don't need a lot to go fishing," Bernier said.

Bernier says in reality, all it takes is a rod, a reel and a license. But, if you're looking to land a lunker, he recommends keeping it simple, opting for bait and tackle that's proven to work, rather than something new.

For panfish he says cubby jigs are a big seller, as are flu-flu's, and for walleye, it's leeches minnows and jigs.
