On the day before thanksgiving many people went to local grocery stores to load up on last minute supplies for their big feast.
Turkeys, stuffing, pies and more left the shelves of Festival and Mega Foods in Eau Claire on the day before Thanksgiving. Shoppers filled their carts with last minute ingredients for their Thanksgiving Day feast.
"I decided I better quick come over here and get the ingredients for it."
"I'm just grabbing my last minute fresh items like my fresh vegetables, fruits and dinner rolls."
While shoppers say they have a lot of different foods they're looking for this year, the turkey is still the number one most common item. Many of the people grabbing supplies in the store on Wednesday said they are the chefs as well.
"I'm cooking it on the grill outside this year."
"I keep everybody out of the kitchen so I can be by myself."
"I probably start about seven and we're done and eat at one."
Besides preparing their feasts for turkey day, people say the togetherness that comes from the day is their favorite part.
"It's fun to get together with the family and the grandchildren."
"My favorite part is seeing family, spending time with family we don't always get to spend time with."
They say the smell of a good homemade meal continues to keep them thankful.
"I like eating so eating the turkey and mashed potatoes is a good tradition."
"My favorite part is when we get to eat."
Some say they are taking advantage of the cheap deals on turkeys so they can have a supply for the rest of the year. Festival says it expects 5,500 to 6,000 customers to come through its doors throughout Wednesday.
Mega Foods says it started filling shelves with turkeys in early November. It says it stocked up with more than 3,000 of them this season.
