New Plan for Wisconsin Forests

The U.S. Forest Service has a new long term plan for the Chequamegon and Nicolet National Forests in northern Wisconsin.

One major change is the end of cross-country travel for all-terrain vehicles in the Chequamegon. It will allow use of ATVs in the Nicolet. The plan would allow ATV travel on marked trails.

It also cuts 70,000 acres from land available for timber harvest. The forests cover more than one and a-half million acres in parts of 11 counties.
