A deadly fish virus infection has been confirmed in inland Wisconsin waters, and the DNR is calling it a major fish health crisis.

The DNR says two freshwater drum fish in the Lake Winnebago Chain of Lakes have tested positive in preliminary analysis for VHS.

The virus causes anemia and hemorrhaging in fish.

A DNR regional fisheries coordinator says it's already caused huge die offs of fish in Lake St. Clair, Lake Erie, Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River.

He's urging anglers and other to take caution so they don't spread the disease, by draining boats before leaving the water and not moving live fish.
